This last season, I’ve been really learning a lot about rest. And not the kind of rest where you’re just putting your feet up and resting, but the kind where your internal systems are at a deep peace no matter what happens. This is a process I’m sure I’ll be practicing for years to come, but as I’ve explored the concept of wholeness in body, soul, and spirit, I’ve realized that they are so deeply interconnected.
I used to really think of rest in terms of laying low, recovering, being still, doing things you wouldn’t normally do, etc.
Then as I learned post-burnout twice, that rest is a rhythm we all need to be in constantly.
It’s not about taking a vacation once or twice a year or even about taking a rest day each week.
It’s actually about being very intentional about our internal state of being.
Did you know that you can have all of the chaos in the world around you, but have your insides remain completely at peace?
And when you hit that place, a healing and restoration can occur within your body, mind, and emotions …
Learn from the Compass
A compass goes wild until you get really still and allow it to settle.
If your hand shakes just a little, it bounces back and forth.
Get still.
Get quiet.
Listen in.
What is your “true north” saying?
You’re more discerning than you know.
Psalm 46:10 AMPC
Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!
Surrender your anxiety. Be still and realize that I am God. I am God above all the nations, and I am exalted throughout the whole earth.
There’s an invitation to: Be still and KNOW
Know your God
Know your heart
Know your mind
Know your body
And know what to do …
